HURSTPIERPOINT OPEN GARDENS
Sunday 19th June | 1.00 pm to 5.30 pm
The Open Gardens website is frequently updated with the latest information for this year's return to gardens being open for you all to enjoy. Do keep an eye open for updates. If you would like to get in touch, phone Prue on 01273 835064 or send a message.
Hurstpierpoint Open Gardens has been a huge success in the village, taking place annually for over 10 years. All funds are raised for our local St. Peter and St. James Hospice.
Up to 10 gardens in Hurst will be opening to raise money and this is a wonderful opportunity to see a wide variety of gardens, large and small, with flowers, trees and vegetables, ponds and some spectacular views! Because we have such a mix of hidden-away gardens this year, our theme is 'Secret Gardens’.
Rest your weary feet at one of the gardens serving refreshments including tea and homemade cakes, and enjoy listening to local duo Crystal Clear provide some gentle background music. And why not take the opportunity to buy plants, crafts and cards? Keep an eye on this site for announcements about what’s happening in different gardens.
ENTRANCE FEE AND HOW IT WORKS
The entrance fee is only £6 per person (free for under-14s) and this covers entry to all gardens. Simply choose the garden you want to visit first, pay your £6.00 there and get a small stamp on your hand and you will be given a programme for all the gardens. As you visit the other gardens, you simply show the stamp and you’re in.
Payment on the day is cash only and it would be much appreciated if you could bring the correct change.
Your programme will include a map so that you can locate all the gardens and decide on your route. The map and addresses will also be published here, on our Facebook page ‘Hurstpierpoint Open Gardens’ and other local village Facebook sites, including our own Hurstpierpoint Hub and Hassocks and Hurst Reality. With the close proximity of gardens to each other this year, getting around should be much easier. However, we are delighted that Cycling Without Age is, once again, providing piloted Tri-Shaws. You will see them cycling up and down the High Street throughout the afternoon. Our sponsors, Freemans Brothers, will again be providing their chauffeured limousine. For both services please feel free to hail them if they are not already carrying passengers.
We couldn’t hold this event and raise so much money, without the generosity of spirit of local residents who throw open their gardens for this afternoon. So, a huge thank you to them. If you would like to open your garden next year and be part of this sociable and fun event, please call Prue on 01273 835064 or 07769 904724.
Those of you who bake and grow
Funds are also swelled with sales of tasty homemade cakes, tea, coffee, beautiful home-grown plants as well as lots of other goodies… we will expand on what these are as we get closer to the event. A huge ‘thank you’ to the hidden saints who put all the work into producing these to raise more money on the day. More for this year would be hugely welcome (happy to collect).
Shop and Businesses
Every year, our High Street comes up trumps with contributions of raffle prizes and our annual raffle makes a significant contribution to the funds raised. A proper ‘thank you’ to individual businesses will be given on this website, the Hurst Open Gardens FB group and the village Facebook Groups.
A number of other businesses help us in so many ways – including Freemans Funeral Directors who are sponsoring us again this year, Chatts who produce and erect our notice boards and Cycling without Age who generously give their time (and energy!) to transport those who find the going a little challenging and who enjoy the fresh air and a warm rug as they sit in the tri-cycle.
Finally, we want to thank the lovely shops and businesses which so kindly agree to display our promotional flyers in their windows. What would we do without you?
